one whole year

where does the time go. away, especially if sleep a lot. which i do. but it is a new year, and time to either start new things or pick old things that you really did enjoy.

this past weekend matt and i were in palm beach florida for the "palm beach poetry festival". it was wonderful. matt got to workshop and play tennis with his poetry idol, stephen dunn. i got to hang out at the beach, rest, and go to some wonderul poetry readings. (the picture is matt and stephen)

matt seems rejuvinated from the workshop and more excited about poetry, and i got to experience and discover new poets. not that they were new to poetry, just new to me. i also got a glimpse into matt's poetry world. very interesting place. i thought it would be snooty people looking down their noses at each other, but no, they were talking and sharing and helping each other.

the two poets i liked the best, other than stephen which is a given, were david kirby and alan shapiro. david writes these witty and funny narrative poems that just draw you in and make you feel a part of them. alan shapiro mixes it up a bit with some humor and some serious. he really makes you think and feel what he has written. he had a poem that nearly made me cry. check them out if you get a chance. great stuff.

well, i hope it will not be another year before i post again, but you never know in this world. it was fun tonight though and good to talk to you.
